AMD's two most powerful laptop CPUs
Ryzen 7040 and Ryzen 7045 are two CPU lines for laptops, using Zen 4 architecture for 78% increased multi-threaded performance, up to 30 hours of battery life.
Ryzen 7045
In this series, the top model is the Ryzen 9 7945HX with 16 cores and 32 threads, clocked at 5.4 GHz, 80 MB L2 + L3 cache. Regarding TDP, OEMs (laptop manufacturers) can configure from 55 - 75W.
According to the company's announcement, the single- and multi-threaded performance of this processor increased by 18% and 78%, respectively, compared to the Ryzen 9 6900HX. This parameter helps Ryzen 9 7945HX become one of the leading products in the mobile segment.
AMD also offers some lower options including Ryzen 9 7845HX with 12 cores and 24 threads, Ryzen 7 7745HX with 8 cores and 16 threads and Ryzen 5 7645HX with 6 cores and 12 threads. All are manufactured on TSMC's 5 nm process, ensuring optimal energy efficiency.

Ryzen 7040
If the Ryzen 7045 series focuses on performance, the 7040 focuses on balance. The product has strong performance but lower TDP, aimed at thin and light laptops but still wants high performance.
This CPU also integrates a powerful GPU, using the company's latest RDNA 3 architecture. In which the highest option is up to 12 cores running at high clock speed. Since then, laptop manufacturers have easily created a powerful, thin and light computer that does not need a discrete GPU to still meet many eSport games or the needs of graphics, editing, and content creation. ..
Ryzen 7040 is AMD's first CPU line equipped with AI processing hardware called Ryzen AI, using AMD XDNA architecture. With dedicated hardware, AI tasks are 20% faster and 50% more energy efficient than conventional ones.
In practical use, AI supports denoising the sound of online calls, increasing sharpness, changing the background or aligning the subject to the center when making a video call. These features are available in the past, but when handled with specialized hardware, less power is needed and helps the CPU and GPU handle multitasking better. The company representative believes that in the future there will be more practical applications based on this AI hardware.
The Ryzen 7040 CPU is also the first AMD CPU series to be manufactured on TSMC's 4 nm process, providing optimal energy efficiency. Laptops equipped with this CPU line can achieve up to 30 hours of battery life when playing videos.

The new CPU series also supports up to two 40 Gbps USB4 ports. Ryzen 7040 Series will include both HS series and U series, but U-series for thin and light laptops will be released later.
Available versions include the Ryzen 9 7940HS with 8 cores 16 threads clocked at up to 5.2 GHz and the Ryzen 7 7840HS with 8 cores 16 threads clocked at up to 5.1 GHz. Both integrate Radeon 780M GPU with 12 cores. Finally, there is a 6-core, 12-thread Ryzen 5 7640HS clocked at up to 5.0 GHz, with an 8-core Radeon 760M GPU integrated.
