AMD unveils Ryzen & Athlon 7020 series of CPUs: Perfect for thin, compact laptops
The product line that has received the most attention from AMD this year is undoubtedly the Ryzen 7000 series CPU series. However, these powerful chips are only suitable for desktop use. In the segment of laptops and ultrabooks, the "Red team" currently has the Ryzen 6000 series, which is developed based on the Zen 3+ architecture, but has begun to show signs of "obsolete".
To meet the demand from the market, AMD is ready to bring the number of 7000 to the laptop CPU product line, specifically the launch of two new generation Ryzen and Athlon chips. These chips are mainly produced for thin and light laptops and ultrabooks. These are devices aimed at the $400 to $700 price segment, and are designed to be used for light everyday tasks rather than for professional or gaming laptops.
While the desktop Ryzen 7000 series is based on the 5nm Zen 4 architecture, these new Ryzen and Athlon chips are based on AMD's Mendocino design, which is more like Zen 2 on the 6nm process, not the 6nm process. 7nm. Therefore, the performance loss is clearly visible. But importantly, they consume very little power, with a TDP of 8-15W across the entire range. This is extremely suitable for thin, compact, light laptops.
The new Ryzen 7000 CPU models introduced by AMD to the laptop market include the Ryzen 5 7520U and the Ryzen 3 7320U. These are all 4-core, 8-thread chips, with the only difference between the two being the clock speed. Ryzen 5 has a boost clock of 4.3GHz (2.8GHz base clock), while Ryzen 3 has a boost clock of 4.1GHz (2.4GHz base clock). On the other hand, the Athlon Gold 7220U has a 2-core, 4-thread design, with a base clock speed of 2.4GHz and a boost clock of 3.7GHz. Both the new Ryzen chips have 6MB of cache, while the Athlon model has 5MB of cache. All have Radeon 610M integrated GPUs based on the RDNA2 architecture.
