There are 6 Bitcoin billionaires worldwide
There are nearly half a billion people who own digital currency, but the prolonged "crypto winter" leaves Bitcoin billionaires to just a few.
According to the 2023 Crypto Wealth Index by Henley & Partners, a prominent London-based investment advisory firm, 425 million people now hold at least one cryptocurrency and 210 million people globally have invested in Bitcoin as of the end of June. The number of Bitcoin millionaires is currently about 40,500 people, while cryptocurrency millionaires in general are 88,200 people. If we calculate the number of people with assets over 100 million USD, the corresponding numbers are 78 and 182.
In total, the amount of Bitcoin that users own is worth equivalent to 602 billion USD. Meanwhile, the value of digital currencies in general being held reached $1,180 billion, equal to one-third of Apple's capitalization in June, when the company reached $3,000 billion. Henley & Partners did not mention the names of the six Bitcoin billionaires.
Also in the report, Singapore has the largest public cryptocurrency adoption rate globally with a total score of 50.2, followed by Switzerland (46.9 points), UAE (45.7 points), Hong Kong (45 points .6 points) and America (44.3 points).
However, the survey was only conducted in 26 countries and territories. Henley & Partners said that to conduct the research, the company cooperated with the New World Wealth organization, using public information from major cryptocurrency platforms such as Binance and Etherscan, as well as internal databases. . Regarding the cryptocurrency adoption rate, Henley & Partners surveyed people about awareness, interest and participation.
Carl Hazeley, an analyst at retail investment platform Finimize, said he was not surprised by Henley & Partners' report. "In fact, most retail investors have lost money participating in this market. As the cryptocurrency winter lasts, people should not put any blind trust," Hazeley advised.
BitInfoCharts statistics show that as of January 2021, there were 25 Bitcoin wallet addresses worth more than one billion USD. Of which 5 addresses belong to cryptocurrency exchanges CoinCheck, Bittrex, Binance, Bitfinex and Huobi.
According to CoinTelegraph , Bitcoin peaking at 68,000 USD per coin at the end of 2021 caused the number of billionaires and millionaires in cryptocurrency to increase rapidly thereafter. However, since then, the number of billionaires and millionaires has also gradually decreased, especially when the " crypto winter " entered its harsh phase. Last year, a number of billionaires became cryptocurrency millionaires , even arrested, such as Sam Bankman-Fried , founder of FTX exchange, or Do Kwon , co-founder and CEO of Terraform Labs.
